Maruszak, Suttle Power Trenton Thunder To 4-1 Win Over Fisher Cats

30 04 2011

The Trenton Thunder offense exploded on Fireworks Night.

Addison Maruszak hit a two-run homerun in the 5th inning, and Bradley Suttle added a solo blast of his own as the Thunder (10-12) defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (11-9) by a score of 4-1 Saturday at Waterfront Park.

The powerful offensive display helped to bolster a shaky start by Manny Banuelos. The lefty prospect went four-and-two-thirds innings, surrendering the Fisher Cats’ lone run on three hits, two walks, and three strikeouts over 88 pitches.

Suttle scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the second on a Corban Joseph single. The Fisher Cats responded in the top of the fourth when Anthony Gose scored on a wild pitch by Banuelos.

But Suttle came back in the bottom of the inning with his bases-empty shot into the Delaware River, putting the Thunder ahead for good and sending the announced crowd of 6,905 into a frenzy. Maruszak’s two-run dinger off the left-field wall came an inning later with Ray Kruml on base and provided some insurance for Trenton.

Kei Igawa earned the victory after pitching two-and-a-third innings and allowing no runs, one hit, no walks,  and three strikeouts. Fisher Cats starter Joel Carreno (six innings, four earned runs, five hits, two walks, and seven strikeouts) took the loss. Fernando Hernandez pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the save.
